JBCP continuously works to promote a thorough, scientific-based dimension to its methodology of work. This helps assess the effectiveness of interventions and projects, enhances performance, and maximizes outcomes that are crucial to decision-making and the formulation of the Program’s policies and strategies.

Among these monitoring and evaluation efforts is the National Database, involving the development of a system of registry books and software, the dissemination of research studies and findings, and the continuous monitoring and evaluation of JBCP’s activities.

National Database

JBCP established a national database in 2010 to collect comprehensive data using a registry book system that gathers information in a standardized way about women who undergo screening at mammography units across all medical sectors in Jordan.

This database helps JBCP and its partners formulate and set strategic priorities at the national level. It enables the analysis and assessment of breast cancer risk factors, as well as the evaluation of the effectiveness of breast health interventions on improving the utilization of mammography services in Jordan. These reports are crucial in highlighting challenges and determining what future interventions are required, such as additional training for clinical breast examination (CBE) practitioners or a tracking system to follow-up with patients on initial findings of the CBE. Currently in manual form, the Program is working towards the development of software to computerize the registry book system.

Research and Studies

The dissemination of research studies and findings is incredibly vital, gearing JBCP’s direction towards using culturally relevant, evidence-based, and effective interventions, and aiding in decision-making. The Program’s outcomes often serve as manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, and play an important role in the continuous process to monitor and evaluate JBCP’s activities.

On an annual basis, JBCP undertakes qualitative studies to evaluate each October campaign, held on a national level in celebration of the International Month for Breast Cancer. These studies assess the level of awareness regarding breast cancer, evaluate the delivered message and its impact on the community, and help reveal how effective the campaign was in changing existing perceptions and attitudes about breast cancer.

Additionally, the Program conducts a KAPs study (Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices), typically held once every five years. These KAPs studies are designed to evaluate the knowledge, perceptions and attitudes of women and health care providers towards breast cancer and breast health practices. They also serve to identify the barriers of accessing breast cancer information and barriers to seeking screening tests, and can help determine the best modes of disseminating breast cancer early detection and screening messages.
