PSP launches outreach in Aqaba, Maan

AMMAN (JT) - The USAID- funded Private Sector Project for Women’s Health (PSP), in cooperation with the General Union of Voluntary Societies (GUVS), launched its outreach programme in Aqaba and Maan last week.

A total of 20 community health workers from both cities received training to conduct field visits, according to a PSP statement. The programme is expected to conduct household visits to over 30,000 women in Aqaba and Maan to provide them with information and counselling on the multiple advantages of modern family planning methods.

The PSP has been managing the programme since 2005, in cooperation with GUVS and the Circassian Charity Association, the statement said.

The community health workers discuss different health issues with the women, such as the benefits of ante- and post-natal care, and the importance of early detection of breast cancer. To date, the project has reached over 800,000 out of the planned 1,100,000 women.
